Roman blinds

Linen Roman blinds combine the best of both worlds: the softness of a curtain and the function of a roller blind. When the Roman blind is down, it filters the light and gives privacy, and when it is raised it gathers into soft, neat folds that frame the window.

The Roman blind has many advantages. It keeps the windowsill clear, takes up little space and is the perfect solution if you have a sloping ceiling, a radiator under the window or other tricky architecture to work around. It is also easy to adjust in height, so you can control privacy and sunlight throughout the day. That makes it especially well suited to kitchens, bathrooms, children's rooms and bedrooms.

The texture and weight of the linen decide how much light comes through. A thin, sheer Roman blind gives soft, filtered daylight. A denser Roman blind gives more privacy and dims the light. A roll-up blind, which is rolled up and held in place with ties, gives a more romantic or rustic look.

The Roman blind also works beautifully as part of a layered look. Combine it with curtain panels in the same window for a cosier feel.

If you need a specific size, you can order a custom-made Roman blind from Himla Atelier – order fabric samples first so you can see the colour and texture in your own light.
