How to hang your curtains

How to hang your curtains

What is the right way to hang your curtains, and how do you achieve it successfully? Depending on the type of curtains you choose for your home, there are different ways to hang them. Here are our best tips to help you get the perfect look with your new curtains.

How should I hang my curtains?

Regardless of whether you opt for a wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted track, we recommend leaving a 2 cm gap between the bottom of the curtain and the floor. Some prefer curtains that pool onto the floor, in that case, adding approximately 50 cm of extra fabric is a good guideline.

Ceiling track

When positioning a ceiling-mounted curtain track, consider any decorative molding or the transition between the wall and ceiling. Ensure there is enough space so that the flowing curtain folds do not touch the windowsill.

Wall-mounted curtain track or curtain rod

If you choose a wall-mounted track or curtain rod, a good guideline is to place it 10–15 cm above the window frame.

Also, keep in mind the necessary bracket depth to prevent the curtains from resting against the windowsill.n.

Finger hooks, which type should I choose?

1-finger hook or 2-finger hook?

The 1-finger hook does not create creases when you pull the curtain out to its full width. That allows you to utilize the full width of the fabric. The 2-finger hook shrinks the fabric width approx. 30%. When you pull out the curtain, the 2-finger hook maintains a decorative pucker at the top of the curtain.

Low, high or extra high finger hook?

There are three different heights of a finger hook. Choose a high finger hook if you want to show the curtain rod or choose a low finger hook if you want to hide the curtain rod. Note, a high finger hook mounted in a ceiling rail causes the length of the curtain to end up under the curtain rod, which makes the rail visible. A low finger hook hides the curtain rail but can also cause the curtain to touch the ceiling if the rail has a height of 1 cm or less. Choose an extra high finger hook if you want to create a "wave effect" where the curtain runs freely under the rail.

Lounge curtains

If you want to create a "wave" curtain hanging style, choose an extra-high single finger hook. This allows the ceiling track to remain visible.

The extra-high hook provides additional space between the track and the curtain, ensuring that the fabric moves smoothly without getting caught in the track's grooves.

Hook for tape

If your curtain has a multi heading tape you can use a hook for tape.

This hook is particularly well-suited for lounge curtains with a wave-style hanging that creates beautifully flowing, even folds.

How many finger hooks do I need?

If you choose a 2-finger hook, it is placed at regular intervals, preferably with a “channel space” between each two-finger hook and a free channel between the finger hooks. If you choose 1-finger hook, leave a channel free between each finger hook.
