Wash & Care Instructions

Himla's textile products are made from the finest natural materials. Linen is our great passion, but we also use cotton, wool, and silk. Natural fibers are all unique in their composition and react differently to washing and use. To maintain the textiles' structure and luster, it is therefore important to understand natural fibers and how they behave. Below are our best tips on how to care for your textiles so you can enjoy them for many years to come.

How to wash your towels

Linen

About linen

Woven from flax, linen is a durable natural fiber with a very good ability to absorb and release moisture. Properly woven, it is well suited for items such as towels, sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths and napkins. Linen’s smooth surface also makes removing dust and spots relatively easy. The reward for well-groomed linen is a material that ages more slowly than other textiles, and which becomes more beautiful and comfortable over time.

Care

Always vary the way you fold your linen, and roll it up for storage. This will protect it from tearing. Avoid too much heat contact if you want to preserve the linen's natural shine and structure. For best results, store linen in a dark, dry place.

Washing

• Follow the washing instructions on each product.
• Choose a gentle cycle and use mild detergent.
• Wash separately from other materials and run only with a half-full machine. Some linen products release a lot of excess fibers during washing and in order for the fuzz not to stick to other textiles, we recommend to wash it separately and generously with water.
• Wash whites and colours separately. Products with mixed colors are handled according to the strongest color. We recommend separate laundry for the first time. Note that white detergents contain bleach and also affect white shades as these can be colored white.
• Wash delicate linen preferably by hand.
• Linen should only be spin-dried at low speed. At high speeds, the fibers can break, which means that the quality deteriorates and excess fibers are created.
• Linen should be tumble dried gently on low heat for a casual look with a soft fall and prominent wrinkles. Do not forget that high heat shrinks the linen more.
• On some linen products, dry cleaning is recommended. This is mainly due to high shrinkage.

Cotton

About cotton

Cotton is a durable material that is highly resistant to heat, and that has excellent absorption properties. Thanks to its good properties, the material is used for many different types of textiles.

Care & Washing

Cotton becomes soiled easily, but it can also withstand hard washing. Washing terry towels once prior to use will improve their ability to absorb moisture, as well as removing excess fibers.

Washing:

• Cotton can withstand high temperatures, but will shrink if washed in too hot water.
• Wash uncoloured and colored separately, and wash at 40 or 60°C, see the care instructions for each product.
• Iron or mangle while damp to regain a smooth surface.
• Avoid using fabric softeners on terry towels as they reduce absorption.
• When tumble drying; take out the textiles of the tumble dryer before they are completely dry.
• Let the the products hang or lay flat to air dry.

Wool

About wool

Wool is an elastic, insulating fabric with a phenomenal ability to absorb moisture. Its properties vary depending on the length of the fiber. Long-hair wool is used for durable yarn, while short-hair wool produces a softer yarn, keeping you warmer.

Care & Washing

Wool should not be washed too frequently. As an alternative to washing, try hanging it outdoors in damp weather and brush it off. This will regain the lustre of the fiber.

Washing:

• We recommend hand wash. For machine wash; use a wool wash program max 30 °C with a gentle wool detergent or dry cleaning. See the care instructions for each product.
• Do not tumble dry or let it dry in strong sunlight, this may shrink or effect the colour of the product.

Buttons

About buttons

The buttons on Himla's bed linen are made of soft rubber. The buttons will not break when mangled but they can't be exposed to heat.
